May 20th, 2005, members of the Blue Mountain Rocketeers were invited to deliver a model rocketry presentation to Mrs. Tina Hector's first grade class at Prescott Elementary School. Word got around the school quickly that some model rockets were going to be flown in the afternoon, and before long, Kindergarten through Fourth grade classes arrived to see what all the noise was about. We even had some very enthusiastic high school students cheering us on from the high school building! All together, BMR played host to nearly 100 very excited boys and girls.
BMR's President Katie Kinyon, Section Advisor Tim Quigg, and club members Liz Quigg, Dean Smith and Kim Smith all volunteered to help in the presentation. Tim gave an orientation on model rocketry that included a lot about the NAR Safety Codes. Next, Tim and Dean talked about some of the bigger mid-power and high power rockets they brought to show to the kids. The presentation concluded with the launch of several rockets on "A" impulse motors, much to the delight of everyone who attended. It was a lot of fun, the kids were all very attentive and asked a lot of good questions, but most importantly, everyone had FUN!
The Blue Mountain Rocketeers would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Hector for inviting our club to the Prescott Elementary School to talk about model rocketry. We hope that we can come back again soon!
