On Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010, the Blue Mountain Rocketeers joined nearly 1,000 people in the Dayton City Park to participate in the 27th anniversary of National Night Out. This was the second year in which BMR participated.
National Night Out is designed to:
1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
2. Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts;
3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
4. Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
BMR was one of 40 exhibits and displays that were on hand that evening. The BMR display was manned by the Fink Family (Glen, Sherrill, Allison and Ryan), and they report that our display was well received, with nearly 100 club brochures being handed out to many kids and their parents who seemed genuinely interested in BMR's activities and programs.
Many special activities took place that night, including a cookout with free hotdogs and soft drinks served up by the local Lions and Kiwanis club, youth activities, contests, and prize drawings. Medical helicopters from Life Flight Network and Northwest Med-Star flew in for display, and the Columbia County Sheriff's Office provided entertainment in the form of uniformed officers in a dunk tank all evening long.
It was great fun, and the Blue Mountain Rocketeers were honored to be a part of it. We look forward to participating in this event again in the future!
