Periodically since the club's inception in 1995, the Blue Mountain Rocketeers have produced indoor and outdoor model rocketry displays for the Columbia County Fair. This yearly event has proven to be an ideal stage for members of our group to publicly display their building skills, as well as to advertise the club and help better educate the public about the hobby of model rocketry.
Ideally, the Blue Mountain Rocketeers would conduct actual live launch demonstrations for the public. Unfortunately, due to the close proximity of surrounding buildings, trees and power lines, live launch demonstrations are not possible. We are therefore limited to static displays. The displays have traditionally consisted of a "rocket garden" composed of representative samples of model, mid-power and high power rockets and associated launch pad configurations. Reader boards filled with fun and interesting facts about the club and the hobby of model rocketry, along with pictures help to better illustrate to the public what the hobby is all about. Tables filled with additional displays consisting of inert examples of single use rocket motors and reloadable rocket motor technology, along with the club's scrap book and photo album, help to give a clear picture of the club's launch activities.
The four-day long event has allowed the Blue Mountain Rocketeers to facilitate 300 to 400 visitors through the display each year, boosting the club's membership numbers, and helping to better inform and educate the public about this fun and rewarding hobby.
