On Saturday, May 31st, 2008, the Blue Mountain Rocketeers traveled to Clarkston, Washington to assist the cadets of Colonel Heflin's Air Force Jr. ROTC program at Clarkston High School in launching their model rockets projects.
This was the third year that BMR has provided equipment and technical expertise to these fine young men and women who may one day defend this country. BMR's Section Advisor Tim Quigg, accompanied by his wife Liz transported the necessary ground support equipment to Clarkston for the program. BMR's Tom Ledgerwood spearheaded the outreach program, assisted by his son and fellow BMR member Kevin Ledgerwood.
After a brief safety orientation by Tom, the kids assembled and proceeded to prep their Estes Alpha model rockets for flight on A8-3 impulse motors. Assisted by fellow ROTC cadet and BMR member John Clizer, the group was soon at the launch pads making final preparations.
A total of 17 people attended the launch activities, logging a total of 24 flights over the 90 minutes the program was conducted. We even met a father and son who are planning to attend BMR's next launch!
BMR would like to take this opportunity to thank Colonel Heflin and the young men and women of his Jr. ROTC program for allowing our model rocketry club to once again support this most worthwhile program. Our thanks also to Tom and Kevin Ledgerwood for once again stepping up to the plate to help continue making this one of BMR's most successful outreach programs.
